This 1-day course is held on a dirt riding area and includes both riding and discussions. You’ll build 12 fundamental skills for off-road riding using body positioning and rider-active control techniques designed for low-traction environments.

An effective, enjoyable ADV training day
The Motorcycle Safety Foundation AdventureBike RiderCourse is designed to be an effective and enjoyable training and education experience for participants with basic street skills on an adventure motorcycle.
Throughout the day, you’ll ride on a dedicated dirt training range and take part in guided discussions. The course emphasizes rider-active control techniques so you can better manage traction, balance, and body position when the pavement ends.
12 fundamental off-road skills
We’ll cover 12 fundamental skills for off-road riding with an emphasis on low-traction surfaces and real-world ADV scenarios.
- Riding on dirt and loose surfaces with confidence.
- Rider-active body positioning to keep the motorcycle stable.
- Throttle and brake control tailored to off-road conditions.
- Slow-speed maneuvering and balance on an ADV or dual-sport motorcycle.
- Line selection and traction management in low-grip environments.
- Building the control and confidence you need before tackling hills and trails.
What to bring & who this course is for
No prior off-road experience is required, but you must be a licensed rider with experience riding on the street.
- You must have a valid motorcycle endorsement/license.
- You may bring your own ADV motorcycle (loaner motorcycles may be available on-site for the class).
- You must provide personal riding gear:
- Long sleeves or jacket and sturdy long pants.
- 3/4 or full-face DOT-approved helmet.
- Eye protection, gloves, and boots.
- All riding is conducted off-road on a dirt training area.
- Coaching is led by professionally trained and MSF-Certified RiderCoaches.
