Become a Motorcycle Instructor
To become a Motorcycle Instructor, through the Ride Safe Indiana, you must meet the following minimum requirements to apply with the State of Indiana:
Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a motorcycle license or endorsement.
Successfully completed a Motorcycle Instructor Preparation Class
Have a good driving record.
Have no criminal history.
Ride a registered and insured motorcycle frequently on the street.
Good communication skills.
A sincere desire to help others.
Please complete and return the Motorcycle Instructor Application, linked below. We will forward your application to the Ride Safe Indiana BMV Coordinator. Please do not contact Ride Safe Indiana with your application. To become a Motorcycle Instructor, you must be sponsored by a provider such as Riders First Motorcycle Safety Training.
Once your application is approved, the Ride Safe Indiana Coordinator will contact you with further information. At that time, you will be entered into the next available Motorcycle Instructor Preparation Class.
About a Motorcycle Instructor Preparation Class
Successful completion of a Motorcycle Instructor Preparation Class certifies you to teach the 2-Wheel Entry Level Courses, which is a learn-to-ride program for novice riders.
Locations and schedules vary, and class sizes can reach 12 candidates.
Materials include everything needed to successfully complete the Motorcycle Instructor Preparation Class.
The Motorcycle Instructor Preparation Class is free to you.
Successful completion requires passing a Rider Skills Test, a knowledge test, and student teaching a 2-Wheel Entry Level Course.
Once certified for the 2-Wheel Entry Level Course, other opportunities are available to certify in other Courses and programs.
